HKF host Open Karate Championships this weekend

The HairounA Karate Federation (HKF), the governing body for the sport here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will host the Open Championships this weekend, April 8-9.

The championships will take place at the West St George Secondary School. Saturday, April 8 is set aside for the preliminaries of the championships, with the finals carded for Sunday, April 9.

Competition will be in the Kata and Kumite and begins each day at 10:00 a.m.

The tournament has attracted competitors from countries such as Anguilla, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago.

They will be competing for medals and the glory of being named champion in their respective age categories.

Preceding the two days of the championships, the HKF will facilitate a training seminar from Wednesday, April 5, to Friday April 7.

The training seminar will have coach, Sensei Dr Wesley Shim of Trinidad and Tobago, and World Karate Federation referee, Sensei Pearl Gerding from Suriname, as the facilitators.
