Smashers, North Windward Volcano battle for First Division Cricket title

Smashers and North Windward Volcano will contest the finals of the First Division of the National Cricket Tournament this Sunday from 10:00 a.m at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.

The two earned the right to contest for the title, following semi- final wins last Sunday, March 26.

Smashers registered a six wicket win over Police One at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

Police One posted 138 all out from 27 overs. Vincent Cupid scored 23 with the bat, and extras contributed a healthy 55 comprising 35 wides, 12 leg byes, 7 byes and 1 no ball.

Bowling for Smashers, Javid Harry took 4 for 21; Andre Hunte 2 for 21; Travis Cumberbatch 2 for 22; and Norlan Williams 2 for 25.

Smashers, led by Ozico Williams’ 41 not out, and Imran Samuel’s 31, responded with 141 for 4 off 18.3 overs.

Vertil Davis picked up 2 for 35.

Meanwhile, at the Sion Hill Playing Field, North Windward Volcano overcame Keegan’s Bequia XI by 120 runs.

Kirton Lavia smashed 73 as Volcano posted 231 all out from 44.4 overs.

For Bequia XI, Chelson Stowe took 5 for 50 and Braxie Browne 3 for 41.

Bequia XI responded with 111 all out from 21.4 overs. Chelson Stowe top scored with 28, as Lavia followed up his batting efforts by taking 5 for 37; Denson Hoyte bagged 3 for 13; and Sealroy Williams, 2 for 41.
