Vincentians to feature as Volcanoes prepare for regional Cricket championship

A number of leading Vincentian cricketers will feature in the two-match Best versus Best series, as the Windward Islands Volcanoes continue their preparation for the 2023 CWI Regional 4-day cricket championships.

The two-match series each will be of three-days duration, and will be played at the Grenada National Stadium on January 12-14, and January 17-19, 2023.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines batsman, Sunil Ambris will captain Team A. Joining Ambris in Team A will be Vincentian cricketers Desron Maloney, Keron Cottoy, Daurius Martin, and Asif Hooper.

Ambris’ opposing captain will be young Dominican left-handed middle order batsman, Alick Athanaze who will lead Team B, which includes West Indies Under-19 captain and CWI Academy middle-order batsman, Ackeem Auguste.

Also included in Team B is the exciting Vincentian opening batsman Gidron Pope; 2022 Vincentian Cricketer of the Year, off-spinner Kenneth Dember; and young Vincentian fast bowling prospect Rayan Williams.

The full squads are Team A : Sunil Ambris (captain), Johann Jeremiah, Desron Maloney, Teddy Bishop, Justin Greaves, Keron Cottoy, Tevyn Walcott, Stephen Naitram, Tarrique Edward, Larry Edward, Preston McSween, Daurius Martin, Nicklaus Redhead, and Asif Hooper.

Team B : Alick Athanaze (captain), Gidron Pope, Kimani Melius, Jerlani Robinson, Kavem Hodge, Ackeem Auguste, Denis Smith, Shadrack Descarte, Gian Benjamin, Kenneth Dember, Darel Cyrus, Ryan John, Josh Thomas, and Rayan Williams.

Each of the three-day matches will start at 9:30 a.m. daily. They are expected to provide the best Windward Islands Volcanoes players with valuable match practice ahead of the West Indies regional 4-day Championship scheduled to begin on January 31, 2023.

The two-match series is also expected to give the Windward Islands selection panel an opportunity to assess players with a view to selecting the best Windward Islands Volcanoes team for the 2023 regional championship.
