SVG Sailing Association hosts Regatta at Blue Lagoon Marina this Saturday
THE STVINCENT AND the Grenadines (SVG) Sailing Association has teamed up with Bart’s Bash, a UK charity supporting ‘sailing opportunities for all’, to organise a regatta that is drawing excellent participation.
The Association said in a release that several sailors from St Vincent, Bequia, Canouan and Union Island have already registered for the regatta which will take place at Blue Lagoon Marina this Saturday, September, 10. Over 1000 clubs in 63 countries Worldwide are taking part making it potentially the world’s biggest sailing regatta, the release further said.
The event takes place in the bay, with registration up until 10:00 a.m; racing starts at 10.30. The qualifiers will be raced in the morning, with the finals being sailed in the afternoon. The event will use four classes of boat. For the serious races there is the ILCA6, the Olympic class boat, and the Optimist class, the biggest youth class in the world. The fun racing will take place in the Topaz and O’pen Skiff classes.
The Association said prizes will be presented at 3.30 p.m by former Commander of the SVG Coastguard, Brenton Caine.The SVG Sailing Association added that it “is looking forward to being part of this world record breaking attempt”.
