Devonric Mac leads Vincentian performance at Whitsuntide Games

Sixteen year old Devonric Mac made his first appearance at the Whitsuntide Games in Grenada last Saturday, June 4, and clocked the fastest times in both the 100m and 200m events.
Running under the High Performance banner, Mac won both the Under -20 Male 100 and 200m events.

But, it was his sizzling 21.20s in the 200m that placed him under the spotlight at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. That time beat the previous Games record of 21.49s, set by Ramadin Alexander in 2017. Mac’s clocking thus placed him among the top five Male Under-18 times recorded in 2022.

Apart from Mac, three other Vincentians were double gold medallists at the Games.

Mac’s club mates, Zichri Hepburn and Kesiann John were among them. Hepburn won the Under-17 Male 1500m and the Open 3000m, while John copped the Female Open 1500m and 3000m races.
Meanwhile, Keo Davis of the St Vincent Grammar School Track Team took gold in the Under-17 , Male 200m, and the 400m.

Davis was St Vincent and the Grenadines’ top performer at this year’s Junior Carifta Games in Jamaica where he gained a silver and bronze in the 200m and 100m, respectively.
In total, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ clubs captured 12 gold medals.

Also gaining gold medals were AJ Delpesche of Troumaca Mustangs who won the Under-17 Male High Jump; Jonathan Medford of the St Vincent Grammar School winning the Under-17 Male Shot Putt; while X- Ceed Sports Club’s Kodi Grant took gold in the Under-17 Male Long Jump; and Caddique Stephens of High Performance doing similarly in the Male Open Long Jump.

Other than the 12 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 11 bronze were secured by members of the Vincentian contingent.

The distribution of the silver medals saw High Performance gaining eight; the St Vincent Grammar School Track Team , X- Ceed Sports Club, each with two; while Troumaca Mustangs had one.

And, High Performance athletes collected six of the 11 bronze medals, with X- Cel Track Club gaining two and one each going to X- Ceed Sports Club, Troumaca Mustangs and the St Vincent Grammar School Track Team.

The Vincent and the Grenadines contingent, which included 91 athletes was among the largest at this year’s Whitsuntide Games.
