Radcliffe wins cliffhanger against Police

Radcliffe defeated Police Two by one run in the 18th match of the National Lotteries Authority-sponsored 2022 Neil Williams Twenty/20 cricket tournament at the Arnos Vale Playing Field last Saturday.

Police Two won the toss and sent Radcliffe in to take first knock, in the game that was reduced to 17 overs. Radcliffe were soon in trouble, losing their first wicket with only three runs on the board. They lost wickets regularly at 2 for 3, 3 for 16, 4 for 29, 5 for 31, 6 for 31, 7 for 107, and struggled to reach 127 for 7 at the end of the 17 overs.

Tijourn Pope hammered six 4s and 1 six in a top-score of 48 not out. Delorn Johnson chipped in with 34, Asif Hooper 12, while extras contributed 16.

Bowling for Police Two, Dillon Douglas was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 18, and received good support from Beniton Stapleton with 2 for 14, and Romario Bibby with 1 for 20.

In reply, Police Two themselves struggled, losing wickets at 1 for 5, 2 for 12, 3 for 30, 4 for 32, 5 for 61, and 6 for 125. With 3 runs needed off the last ball for victory, the pair of Kevin Abraham and Romario Grant were only able to run a single, sparking shouts of joy from the Radcliffe players. Beniton Stapleton led the way with 51, Kevin Abraham 19 not out, and Shaman Hooper made 17, while extras totalled a healthy 20.

Bowling for Radcliffe, Othneil Lewis finished with 2 for 14, Asif Hooper 2 for 18, Rasheed Fredericks 1 for 18, and Delorn Johnson 1 for 28, as Radcliffe won by 1 run.

Also on Saturday, in game carded for the Arnos Vale One playing field, Police One won from Dominic Sutherland/ Lloyd Lewis/ Memorial Funeral Home by default.

At the Sion Hill Playing Field also on Saturday, North Windward defeated Rivals by 20 runs. Shem Browne made 84, Mickron McDowell 37, and Veno Dasousa 32 in North Windward’s total of 178 for 5 off 20 overs.

Bowling for Rivals, Anthonio Barker took 1 for 24, Roland Wilkinson 1 for 25, while three of the other bowlers took a wicket each; extras contributed three.

Rivals were only able to reach 158 for 5 in their 20 overs, led by Anson Latchman with 68, Roland Wilkinson 23, and Anthonio Barker 22 not out.

Devon Williams and Othneil Thomas shared the wickets taking 3 for 22, and 2 for 33, respectively as North Windward won by 20 runs.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Twenty/20 tournament, JG Tigress defeated Radcliffe Girls by seven wickets at the Buccament Playing Field on Saturday. Batting first, Radcliffe Girls were dismissed for 50 in 14 overs, with extras contributing a healthy 12. Tracy Byron top-scored with 23, Jennisha Hackshaw and Nikolai Nanton made 4 each.

Doing the demolition with the ball was Glendeen Turtin who bagged 2 for 3, Shaniza Daniels 2 for 6, Isha Williams 2 for 17, and Stacy-Ann Adams 1 for 31, as wickets fell steadily, the forst going when the score was just 1, Radcliffe Girls all falling for 50 in 14 overs.

In reply, JG Tigress reached 51 for 3 in 5.3 overs, led by Stacy-Ann Adams with 10 not out, Giany Marshall 05, and Zavian Stephens 4 not out, with wickets falling at 1 for 13, 2 for 37, and 3 for 42.

Thirty extras were delivered by Radcliffe Girls, with the wickets to fall taken by Jennisha Hackshaw 2 for 26, and Marsha Hooper 1 for 12.
