SVG joins Chessable Academy

The young Vincentians, Rian Veira and Orisia Robinson will be among more than 400 persons between ages 8-16, in the 2022 edition of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Chessable Academy.

Veira, 14 and Robinson, 15, who are students of the St Vincent Grammar School and the Girls’ High School respectively begin their online journey in the art of playing Chess, tomorrow, March 5, a club release states.

This first semester for 2022 runs until May 28. The sessions are set for Saturdays between 11:00 a.m and 1:00p.m, and will cover various aspects of the sport.

Like the other participants, Veira and Robinson would be taught among other things, how to covert advantage, difficult decision making in Chess and exchange operations as important aspects of positional play.

President of the SVG Chess Federation, Israel Bruce said he is optimistic that from the experience of Veira and Robinson, other young Vincentians especially those in schools will get involved in the sport.

St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) became an official member of FIDE on December 28, 2021.

With full admission to the international body, SVG can participate in activities of FIDE, including the World Chess Olympiad.
