Windwards Volcanoes battle to avoid Scorpions’ sting  

The Windward Islands Volcanoes and the Jamaica Scorpions drew their second round match in the Cricket West Indies four-day Professional Cricket League on Sunday at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Set 238 to win, the Volcanoes, after losing five wickets, chose to shut up shop with Emmanuel Stewart 26 not out and Keron Cottoy 14 not out. Devon Smith had topscored with 47.

Derval Green had 3/30.

The Scorpions had made 404/8 declared in their second innings, after being forced to follow on.

John Campbell made 101, Nkrumah Bonner 100 not out, Jermaine Blackwood 76 and Paul Palmer Jr. 42.

Bowling for the Volcanoes, Sherman Lewis got 3/62 , Josh Thomas 2/54 and Shane Shillingford 2/123.

Replying to the Volcanoes’ 387 all out, the Scorpions were dismissed for 220 in their first innings.

Derval Green 62 and Paul Palmer 54, were the main scorers.

For the Volcanoes, Preston Mc Sween had 3/41, Sherman Lewis- 3/62 and Josh Thomas – 2/ 34.

In the Volcanoes’ first innings, Kavem Hodge scored 88, Devon Smith 77, Emmanuel Stewart 50 and Cottoy 47.

Bowling for the Scorpions, Patrick Harty – 3/65, Derval Green – 3/73, Nicholson Gordon – 2/54 and Marquino Mindley – 2/ 87.

But in the two other matches, which were completed also on Sunday, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and the Barbados Pride got outright wins.

At the Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba, Red Force had an innings and 168 runs over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.

Scores : Red Force 552/9 declared. Hurricanes – 186 and 198.

Scores: Barbados Pride- 389 and 79/3, Guyana Jaguars – 209 and 258.

Round three begins this Thursday, with the Windward Islands Volcanoes meeting the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in a day/night fixture from 2pm daily at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia; the Guyana Jaguars host the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Guyana National Stadium, beginning at 9:30am each day and at Sabina Park in Jamaica, the Jamaica Scorpions face Barbados Pride, with the match bowling off daily at 10am, Jamaica time.
