Bequia hosts Good Friday open water swim event

The Rising Star Swim Team, in conjunction with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation and the Bequia On-Shore Easter Regatta Committee, hosted an open water swim event and an iron man race, last Friday.

The open water event comprised three races: a 375m, a 750m and a 1500m.

Catering for swimmers under the age of 10 years, the 375m race took place from the Ginger Bread Hotel jetty to the famed Almond Tree shore.

Scarlet Hadley of the Black Sands Swim Squad won the girls race, ahead of the Rising Stars’ duo of Kylia Ollivierre.

Rising Stars Swim Team’s Dennis Sutherland was first on the shoreline for the boys, beating Black Sand Swim Squad’s Joseph Hadley into second place and his fellow Rising Stars’ competitor Omarion Gooding placed third.

Rising Stars Swim Team’s trio of Kate Ollivierre, Dariana Des Vignes and Krista Bynoe, in that order, were the top female finishers in the 750m race, which was from the Plantation House Hotel to the Almond Tree.

In the boys’ segment, the lone competitor was Corisni Pollard, also of Rising Stars Swim Team.

And, in the 1500m race, from Princess Margaret Beach to the end line, Cruz Halbich of the Black Sand Swim Squad bossed that swim.

Rising Stars Swim Team’s Tavonte Forde came out of the water second, ahead of Black Sand Swim Squad’s Kenale Alleyne, who placed third.

Forde then followed up his second place in the 1500m, by champing over the other three competitors in the iron man race.

The four competitors were required to swim from the Almond Tree to the Crab Hole jetty, thereafter run along the walk way, back to the Almond Tree.

From there, they boarded their kayaks and paddled to the Plantation House jetty and back to the start/finish line at the Almond Tree location.

Chie organiser of the event, Tauran Ollivierre expressed delight in hosting the event, and hoped for greater participation in the next edition.
