Vincy Heat faces familiar foes in CONCACAF Nations League

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Vincy Heat, have been matched against Nicaragua, Suriname and Dominica, in Group D of League B of the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League.

The draw took place last Wednesday at the Chelsea Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The ties are set for September, October and November, with matches played on a home and away basis.

Vincy Heat ended the Nations League qualifiers in position number 20, following wins versus French Guiana and Bonaire, while they suffered defeats to Nicaragua and Turks and Caicos Islands.

However, Nicaragua finished the qualifiers 9th, Suriname, 12th, and Dominica, 14th.

Despite, the current standings, Vincy Heat will be looking to come out tops in their group, as the four group winners in League B, will gain promotion to League A in 2020.

Likewise, the four teams finishing at the bottom of League A’s groups, will be demoted to League B and the bottom four in League B will be relegated to League C, while League C’s group winners get promotion to League B.

League B consists of three others groups – A, B and C.

In Group A are French Guiana, St Kitts and Nevis, Belize and Grenada, with Group B comprising El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Monserrat and St Lucia.

And, Group C has Jamaica, Guyana, Aruba and Antigua and Barbuda.

Meanwhile, the top teams in CONCACAF are lodged in League A.

The United States of America, Canada and Cuba (Group A); Mexico, Panama and Bermuda (Group B), Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago and Martinique (Group C) and Costa Rica, Haiti and Curacao (Group D), configure League A.

Completing the participating teams, are those which qualified for the lowest tier – League C.

Group A of League C is composed of Barbados, Cayman Islands, St Martin and the US Virgin Islands, with the trio of Bonaire, the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands in Group B.

Group C has Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Anguilla and in Group D are Guadeloupe, Turks and Caicos Islands and St Maarten.
