Vincy Heat captain liking new vibes
Cornelius Stewart, who was given the opportunity to captain this country’s senior men’s football team Vincy Heat at the recent Windward Islands Football Association’s tournament and the CONCACAF Nations League qualifiers, last Thursday, is liking the “vibes” in the team.
Speaking at a post-match interview last Thursday following his team’s 2-1 win over Bonaire, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, Stewart expressed delight in leading the team of players.
Stewart stated: “I am very happy to be part of it, happy to captain this team and take this team on my back … The bunch of guys, we have are hungry (for success) … They are more dedicated, there are no egos, nothing, so it is easy to work with them”.
Stewart, who is the most senior member of the current team and who has some experience playing overseas as a professional footballer, said that he brought those outings to bear on his captaincy of the team.
“I use my experience from outside … If you can do it outside, then it is easier to do it here, Stewart pointed out.
As captain, Stewart has led Vincy Heat to four wins and one draw.
He championed the team to the WIFA title, which St Vincent and the Grenadines hosted recently.
In that tournament, Vincy Heat defeated Barbados 2-0, St Lucia, 2-1 and Dominica, also 2-1. Vincy Heat drew 1-1 with Grenada.
A speedy player, who operates as a midfielder or strikers, Stewart too, have impacted on the team, accounting for three of his team’s tally of goals.
