High Park United hold on to their netball title

Perennial winners of the Richland Park netball competition, High Park United, held on to their lien on the title, with a slender one-goal win, last Sunday in the final.

Facing Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Star Girls, at the competition’s host venue, the Richland Park Government School hard court, High Park United, although leading in all quarters, won 54-53, much to the delight of their home support.

After playing unbeaten in their eight preliminary round matches, High Park United saw off Vulturez 82-53 in the first semi-final.

Then on Saturday, Star Girls beat J&G Scorchers 48-41, thus got the right to dethrone High Park United.

Scorchers went on to take third place by beating Vulturez 63-55.

High Park United earned $1,500, Star Girls, $1,000, and Scorchers, $700.

All three top places got trophies, along with their cash awards.

Awards

High Park United’s Shellisa Davis copped the competition’s most valuable player award, with her fellow national shooter Maryann Fredericks of Star Girls, taking the most goals accolade.
Fredericks poured in 297 goals.

Both Davis and Fredericks, were their teams’ most valuable players.

Getting the other individual MVPs of the teams were Shania Pompey – 3J’s Valley Strikers, Brittany Williams – Island Blends Success Radio, Letiesha John – Vulturez, Shevorne Baptiste – VSports Youths, Kemisha Antoine – Scorchers, Aneisha John – Potential Girls and Treicia De Shong – Bruce Law Chambers Netball Team.

Kelly Stephens of Country Meet Town VSports Youths took the most improved player award. VSports Youths also got the most disciplined team title.

Organisers of the competition, Valley Sports Committee, also recognised Louisa Caine, Princess Harry and Anthony Garrick, with the community spirit awards.
