Windward Volcanoes lose to Leeward Hurricanes in thriller

The Windward Islands Volcanoes fell short in a thriller by 12 runs to the Leeward Hurricanes at the Windsor Park in Dominica, in the four-day Professional Cricket League (PCL) .

Set 241 to win, the Volcanoes were defeated, despite Sunil Ambris’ 102 not out and Kavem Hodge’s 65.

Rahkeem Cornwall bagged 5 for 79 and Qunton Boatswain, 3 for 5.

The Hurricanes sent into bat, compiled 271. Their innings saw Montcin Hodge stroking 61 and Kacey Carty, 54.

For the Volcanoes, Ray Jordan picked off 4 for 47, Larry Edwards, 4 for 73 and Josh Thomas, 2 for 66.

The Volcanoes innings stopped at 230. Allick Athanaze scored 53, Devon Smith, 46 and Sunil Ambris, 41.

Sheemo Berridge took 4 for 42 and Rahkeem Cornwall, 4 for 48.

Hurricanes’ second innings shut off at 199, with Devon Thomas posting 43, Jahmal Hamilton, 40 and Kieran Powell, 33.

Kavem Hodge snatched 4 for 51 and Josh Thomas, 2 for 33.

And following back-to-back losses, the Guyana Jaguars resumed regular programming by defeating the Jamaica Scorpions by 7 wickets on Sunday, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Guyana Jaguars, the defending champions, were asked to make 171, and obliged for the loss of three wickets.

Captain Leon Johnson, led with 61 not out and Chandrapaul Hemraj, 42.

The Scorpions, after being inserted, posted 358 in their first innings. Derval Green scored 86, Brandon King, 51, and Jermaine Blackwood, 44.

Sherfane Rutherford had 3 for 52, Vereesammy Permaul, 3 for 76, Romario Shepherd, 2 for 69 and Gudakesh Motie-Khanai, 2 for 70.

Guyana Jaguars, in response, posted 321, with Vishual Sighn scoring 61, Leon Johnson, 58, Anthony Bramble, 45, and Christopher Barnwell, 42.

Bowling for the Scorpions, Jerome Taylor took 3 for 27, Dennis Bulli, 3 for 91 and Rovman Powell, 2 for 43.

Batting a second time, the Scorpions imploded to be dismissed for 132, as Motie-Khanai got 3 for 11, Raymon Reifer scalped 3 for 36 and Barnwell, 2 for 18.

At the Kensington Oval in Barbados, Barbados Pride registered a 4-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

Requiring 324 to win, Barbados Pride reached 326 for 6. Jonathan Carter hit 149 not out, Shamar Springer, 66 and Tevyn Walcott, 48 not out.

Choosing to bat first, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force had amassed 358. Lendl Simmons stroked 16 fours and 5 sixes in his 138 and Jason Mohammed cracked 20 fours in a knock of 121.

Marquino Mindley grabbed 5 for 78, Kevin Stoute, 2 for 38 and Chemar Holder, 2 for 68, Ashley Nurse then hit a topscore of 75, while Tevyn Walcott contributed 63, Shayne Moseley, 56, as Barbados Pride replied with 282.

Bowling for the Red Force, Yannick Cariah snared 5 for 59, Ravi Rampaul, 2 for 37 and Anderson Phillip, 2 for 41.

T & T Red Force then posted 247 for 6 declared in their second innings, with Denesh Ramdin scoring 86, while Joshua Da Silva and Lendl Simmons, scored 65 each.

Nurse was the Pride’s most successful bowler with 3 for 62.

The tournament takes a break this weekend.
