Volcanoes, Red Force, Scorpions, fire in PCL

The Windward Islands Volcanoes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and Jamaica Scorpions, were all winners in the latest round of the WICB Professional Cricket League 4-day Regional Tournament, which ended last Sunday.

The Volcanoes posted 470 for 8 declared versus the Barbados Pride at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Devon Smith‘s 199, saw him striking 23 fours and one six, Sunil Ambris struck 79, Dennis Smith, 66 and Kirk Edwards, 39.

Shamar Springer took 2 for 72, Miguel Cummins, 2 for 78 and Chemar Holder, 2 for 80.

Jonathan Carter scored 64 and Aaron Jones, 42, as the Pride was dismissed for 253.

For the Volcanoes, Larry Edwards had 5 for 67 and Ray Jordan, 2 for 45.

Asked to follow on, Barbados Pride again faltered with the bat, all out for 250. Shayne Moseley hit 51, Aaron Jones, 39, Shamar Springer, 34 and Ashley Nurse, 32.

Kavem Hodge had 3 for 79, Ray Jordan, 2 for 22 and Larry Edwards, 2 for 93, bowling for the Volcanoes. Then Volcanoes reached their target of 34, to win by 8 wickets.

Meanwhile, leaders and four-time reigning champions Guyana Jaguars, suffered their second straight defeat at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, on Saturday with a day to spare.

T & T Red Force made 108. Keemo Paul took 3 for 26, Clinton Prestano, 3 for 37, Raymon Reifer, 2 for 20 and Romario Shepherd, 2 for 23.

The Jaguars replied with 150, with Keemo Paul making 66 not out.

Bowling for Red Force, Imran Khan took 3 for 22, Ravi Rampaul, 2 for 34, Anderson Phillip, 2 for 44 and Odean Smith, 2 for 48.

Batting a second time, Red Force posted 317. Jason Mohammed scored 83, Imran Khan, 46, Joshua Da Silva, 49 and Jeremy Solozano, 45.

Raymon Reifer picked off 4 for 64 and Keemo Paul had 4 for 81, to register a good all-round performance.

Set 286 to win, the Jaguars fell for 182. Romario Shepherd made 50, as Imran Khan took 3 for 45, Bryan Charles, 2 for 21, Odean Smith, 2 for 29 and Anderson Phillip, 2 for 52.

At Warner Park in St Kitts, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes were dismissed for 204 against the Jamaica Scorpions.

For the Hurricanes, Jahmar Hamilton scored 65 and Rahkeem Cornwall, 33.

Bowling for the Scorpions, Jerome Taylor snared 5 for 28, Derval Green, 2 for 25 and Rovman Powell, 2 for 37.

In the day/night fixture, the Scorpions replied with 190. Jermaine Blackwood scored 69.

Bowling for the Leewards Hurricanes, Damion Jacobs picked up 5 for 42 and Rahkeem Cornwalll, 2 for 55.

Batting a second time, the Hurricanes fared worse, dismissed for 142. Rahkeem Cornwall made 44 and Jahmar Hamilton, 41.

Jerome Taylor was again the most successful bowler for the Scorpions, taking 4 for 31, Rovman Powell grabbed 3 for 43 and Derval Green, 2 for 31.

Needing 157 to win, the Scorpions reached the target for the loss of nine wickets.

Asad Fudadin scored 36, as Damion Jacobs ripped 6 for 62, against his countrymen, and Cornwall gathered 3 for 50.
