Zone B teams battling for masters’ cricket qualification

Mustique Company masters is the lone team from Zone B of the SVG masters’ 20/20 cricket competition, to punch a ticket to quarter-finals.

Whilst Mustique has had an unblemished run of five wins from as many matches, five others outfits – General Hardware Pastures, Computec Belfongo, Sion Hill, Joseph Da Silva Snr Memorial Funeral Home North Leeward and RSVG Police, are all in the running for a spot.

The lone team with no chance in Zone B, is Ruddy’s Electrical Barrouallie, which is winless from five matches.

In Zone B, defending champion North East, along with A R and G Trucking Ptani, Digicel Glamorgan, and Davis Construction Bequia, are the teams that have nosed ahead in the standings, on 18, 16, 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Glamorgan bettered their position last Saturday, coming out winners by six wickets over Floyd Bullock Trucking Marriaqua at Buccament.

Marriaqua posted 110 for 9 from their 20 overs. Orlando Lavia scoring 34 and Hugh Tobey, 24.

Bowling for Glamorgan, Ezekiel William scaptured 4 for 12, Elvis John, 3 for 14 and Mc Neil Morgan, 2 for 8.

Mc Neil Morgan and Samuel Richards, both struck 37, to lead Glamorgan to 116 for 4 from 17.4 overs. Edmund Haywood, with 2 for 30, was Marriaqua’s most successful bowler.

Also on Saturday, at the Cumberland Playing Field, Belfongo eeked out a two-run victory over North Leeward.

Batting first, Belfongo scored 126 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs, with Sylvannus Morgan scoring 36 and Orville Franklyn, 35.

Orlando Charles’ 40 and William Edwards’ 38, were not enough, as North Leeward replied with 124 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Rohan King, who took 3 for 16, Sylvannus Morgan, 2 for 12 and Elvis Browne, 2 for 23, shared the wickets that fell.

Meanwhile, at Park Hill on Saturday, the match between and Kirk Da Silva La Croix was abandoned because of a wet outfield.

And, limited play was possible on Sunday at the same Park Hill venue.

Bequia and North Windward had to share the spoils, after their match had to be abandoned because of rain.

At the point of the stoppage, Bequia was 82 for 2 from 13.4 overs. Ken Cozier was on 42 not out.
