Nicholas Lewis reels off another MVP Basketball award

Nicholas Lewis has racked up another Most Valuable Player award in local basketball competition. Lewis’ latest accolade was recorded last Saturday night at the Clive Tannis hard court, when he was named the first division’s MVP of the 2018 Bequia Basketball tournament.

Lewis, en route to the award, had the most points (180), the most assists (32), and the most steals (32).

In addition, Lewis had seven blocks from the seven matches he played for Rising Stars.

Lewis was the second division’s MVP in the 2017 edition of the Bequia Basketball tournament, when he played then for Rising Stars II.

He pouched back-to-back MVP awards for the St Vincent and the Grenadines male basketball team to the 2017 and 2018 CBN/ Winlott Inc. Windward Islands Schools’ Games, which were held here in St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia, respectively.

At the final of the 2018 secondary schools’ basketball competition, Lewis walked away with the MVP of the final award, as he helped Bequia Community High School defeat Bequia Seventh Day Adventist in the historic final played at the Clive Tannis hard court.

Lewis was rewarded with a spot in the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team to the 2018 FIBA Americup, which was staged in Suriname in June of this year.

Sharing the spotlight with Lewis at last Saturday’s presentation as MVPs, were Giovanni Miller and Dario Barbour.

Miller, who played for the winning unit Dragons, copped the MVP award in the Under-16 division, as he scored the most points (103), and had the most rebounds(100). He was also the MVP of the playoff series.

Meanwhile, Barbour of Rising Stars, had the most points (105). He added 56 rebounds, 6 assists, 30 steals and 9 blocks, to his personal tally.

Among the other stand-outs in the Under-16 division, were Corsini Pollard, the scorer of the most points (103), Mc Coy Hazell of Dragons, who had the most assists (14), along with Jelano Joseph of Rockets, most blocks (31), and Anthony Charles of Hornets, most steals (46).

Joining Barbour in the second division’s awards list, were were Michael Peniston of Blazin Heat, who had the most blocks (25) and most rebounds (68), while Donjay Peniston of Blazin Heat, registered the most assists (18).

Rising Stars’ Augustine Pollard was adjudged the most improved player and Young Duke’s Jermaine John, MVP of the play-offs.

Completing the first division’s awardees were Denroy Hutchins of East Blazers, whose 17 blocks was the most recorded and his 96 rebounds, also topped the list.

Rising Stars’ Jadley Bynoe pouched the rookie of the year award, while Cody Compton of Raptors was named the MVP of the play-offs.

The winning coaches were Kirsta Bailey – Under-16, Delwain Simmons, second division, and Leandru Charles, first division.

Special awards

Two special awards which came compliments Alston Padmore were given to Blessing Pierre and Erienna Osbourne, whom he deemed the most enthusiastic young players.
