SVGS retain junior cricket title

The St Vincent Grammar School retained the secondary schools’ junior division cricket title last Tuesday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, defeating the George Stephens Senior Secondary by 68 runs.

Batting first, Keon Mc Millan who scored 44 not out, Devonte Mc Dowall, 19, Luke Wilson, 15 and a healthy contribution of 52 extras, pushed the St Vincent Grammar School to 153 for 6 from 22 overs, as the match was reduced due to rain.

Bowling for George Stephens, Joe Williams took 3 for 28 and Esron Thomas, 2 for 43.

Luke Wilson then ripped through the George Stephens’ batting, taking 5 for 14, as they folded for 85 in 21.5 overs.

Joe Williams top scored with 29 and the Grammar School conceded 26 extras.

Keon Mc Millan of the St Vincent Grammar School was the leading run-scorer with 98 runs.

But there was a three-way tie for the bowler with the most wickets.

Sharing the title were Omarion Bowens of the Sandy Bay Secondary School (9-54), Newton Browne of the St Vincent Grammar School (9-49) and Luke Wilson, also of the St Vincent Grammar School ( 9-34).

The Most Valuable Player was Newton Browne, who made 74 runs, to go along with his nine wickets.
