Standouts rewarded in North East football competitions 

When the lights of the 2017/2018 National Lotteries Authority/FLOW/ Hairoun North East Football League (NEFL) turned off on Sunday at the Chili Playing Field, individuals who stood out were placed under the spotlight at the closing and presentation ceremony.

The Premier Division and Community Shield champions Bruce Law Chambers Sparta bucketed all awards.

These awards went to Kensley Joseph – best goal keeper, Colson King – best defender; Brad Richards – best midfielder and Wasim Providence – best striker.

The awards in the First Division competition were, however, shared.

Anthony Hazell of Pride and Joy won the best goalkeeper accolade, with the North Windward All Stars’ pair of Alex Phillips and Terrison Joseph claiming the best defender and best midfielder awards, respectively.

Joseph also received a special award as the best young player.

Also rewarded were the Caesar Real Estate’s World XI duo of Dorian Dallaway – best striker and Curlon Joseph – player of the final.

Taking the most disciplined team award was Bruce Law Chambers Mount Grenan.

Some special awards were also presented. Jerald Simmons of World XI was named best coach/manager, with Ajit Duncan, manager/coach of Greiggs, collecting an honorary award from the organizers.

The league saw an innovation, whereby the latter part of the competition was played in the evening, utilizing portable lights.

Despite being inadequate, the use of lights was embraced by the players and spectators alike.(RT)
