SVGCA Inc not resting on financial laurels

SVGCA Inc not resting on financial laurels

Despite being in a relatively sound financial position, the executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc is not resting on its laurels and would be forever seeking to find sustainable ways to be continuously sound.

This was expounded by president of the association Dr Kishore Shallow, as he addressed the Annual General Meeting at the President’s Suite of the

Arnos Vale Playing Field, recently.

“We are in a good position, but we can’t take it for granted…. We must come up with sustainable ways to ensure that what we have we can continue to invest for the development of our players and at the same time find additional funds to invest in other things to make us more stable going forward,” Shallow noted.

The national cricket head was speaking in reference to his organization for the second financial year in succession, being able to realize a surplus in excess of $300,000.

Shallow thus underscored: “In comparison with our neighbouring islands, we are probably much better off.”

He said that in the case of St Lucia, they were unable to help their players move from Dominica after the passage of Hurricane Maria last September, while Grenada had to cancel its national Twenty/20 competition, because of a lack of finance.

Shallow said that St Vincent and the Grenadines’ standing was a result of prudent management and the fact that his association during the last year, benefitted from the hosting of regional tournaments.

However, St Vincent and the Grenadines is not down to host any regional or international matches during the current financial year, which ends September 30.

As a consequence, Shallow said that his executive, with the support of the affiliates, during this current period, have to seek out viable investment opportunities to continue to stay “stable” financially.

“We all have a huge role to play to help cricket with an image that will encourage and entice citizens to commit and at the same time have a culture in cricket that if we have a business for cricketers to support… It is a collective effort,” Shallow observed.(RT)
