Joseph, Jack get SVGCA Inc special awards

Dawnley Joseph and Julian Jack were special awardees, when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc held its annual awards and gala dinner, held recently at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

The two were the occasion’s honourees, as the SVGCA Inc continued to acknowledge persons who have made contributions to cricket, both on and off the field.

Joseph, a former St Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards opening batsman, began playing cricket at the age of nine. He went on to play local club cricket with Gibson Building Construction Third World in the local competition.

He made his SVG debut with the national Under-19 team in 1983 and progressed to the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team.

Additionally, Joseph went on to captain the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team and the Windwards.

Joseph lists his 109 for the Windwards versus Jamaica in 1988 at the Sabina Park in Jamaica, as one of his best innings, in what was then the Red Stripe Cup regional four-day competition.

He had to face up to West Indies quicks, which included the likes of Patrick Patterson, Michael Holding and Courtney Walsh.

Joseph was rewarded with a tour to Zimbabwe in 1989 with the West Indies B team; there he made his mark scoring 456 runs in his seven innings.

Apart from representing the Windwards, Joseph has played for the regional President’s XI versus the touring Australians in 1991 at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Joseph ended his national representation in 2006, but is still active in local competitions, namely with Spartans and Stubbs Masters.

In the case of Jack, who is a former Radcliffe, SVG and Windward Islands player, he was cited for his contribution to administration.

Jack first entered the national cricket association as a committee member, before holding down the post of treasurer for nine years.

Jack was elevated to the presidency in 2005 and served until 2014 and is credited for the association having office space at the AVESCO building at Arnos Vale.

Spreading his administrative wings, Jack served as manager of the SVG senior team, as well as the Windward Islands and has been a SVG and Windward Islands selector.

His present contribution is managing his club FLOW Radcliffe, who won back-to-back Premier Division titles in 2016 and 2017. The club dedicated the wins to Jack.

Whilst Joseph and Jack were the two in the spotlight, those still vyeing for national selection and otherwise were also recognized.

Dillon Douglas earned the Clarence “Paddy“ Thomas, Youth Cricketer of the Year; Miles Bascombe, the Lance John Local Cricketer of the Year, with Sunil Ambris getting the Michael Findlay Regional Male Cricketer of the Year and Kesrick Williams, the Winston Davis International Cricketer of the Year award.
