Big names reach TBPO softball cricket semis

Two big names in local softball cricket, CGM Gallagher Novice and Gairy’s Construction Simple Boyz are through to the semi-finals of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organization’s Softball Cricket Competition.

Novice, former champions of the competition, saw off Gomea Bombers by 10 wickets, as the two battled at the Dauphine Playing Field last Sunday.

Batting first, Gomea Bombers reached 94 for 9 from their 20 overs, with Osborne Franklyn scoring 26 not out.

Bowling for Novice, Shirlon Pompey had 2 for 18 and Norlan Williams and Chritso Williams both had 2 for 19.

Roderick John then blasted 53 not out and Newborne Joseph, 29 not out, as Novice rushed to 97 for 0 in just 6.4 overs.

Joining Novice in the last four were defending champions Simple Boyz, who ousted Bank of SVG All Starz by 37 runs.

Jabari Cunningham slammed 62, Xavique Alexander, 42 and Desron Maloney, 24 not out, as Simple Boyz piled on 160 for 3 from their 20 overs.

Glenroy Dascent was All Starz’ most successful bowler, taking 2 for 28.

All Starz’ batting could not withstand the bowling of Jabari Cunningham, who had 4 for 26 and Eldon Morris, 2 for 30, and folded for 123 in 17.1 overs.

Earl Pope, who scored 42 and Kelvin Lorraine, 20, had All Starz’ best showing with the bat.

On Saturday, Stingers and Nice Radio Clinchers made it through to the quarter-finals, as the last pair of matches in the round of 16 were decided.

Stingers beat Just For the Fun by four wickets and Clinchers derailed Dipcon Road Warriors by 73 runs.

Just For the Fun scored 63 for 8 from 20 overs, with Kezron O’Brien taking 3 for 8.

Stingers replied with 67 for 6 in 17.2 overs, as they had insufficient players. Bowling for Just For the Fun, Delbert Thomas had 3 for 4.

And, Clinchers posted 174 all out in 18.5 overs. Desron Spring scored 32, Peter Richards, 28 and Vincent Cupid, 22.

Damon Mason bagged 5 for 54 and Chester Kiel, 2 for 29, bowling for the Road Warriors.

In response, Road Warriors were dismissed for 101 in 17.2 overs. Tilron Harry scored 20.

Bowling for Clinchers, Roger Gibson took 2 for 0, Donroy Fergus, 2 for 2, Okeiph Andrews, 2 for 10 and Peter Richards, 2 for 16.

The competition, barring any unforeseen disruptions, will close off December 17.
