Everything Vincy in NACAC Chatoyer Endurance 10K
Junior Ashton and Linda Mc Dowall were again top in the international segment of the NACAC Chatoyer Endurance 10k, which was organized by Team Athletics last Sunday.
Run in the hilly terrain of North Leeward, with the course starting off in Gordon Yard and ending in Chateaubelair, Ashton and Mc Dowall ensured that the titles won last year remained in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Ashton won the male category, stopping the clock at 39 minutes 58.40 seconds, but not before he had to be beckoned to the finish line, seemingly winded with about 10 metres to go.
He, however, bettered his effort last year, when he timed 41 minutes 17.20 seconds.
But that was not the case with the female bracket, as Mc Dowall, despite winning in 51 minutes 29.92 seconds, was markedly slower than in 2016.
Mc Dowallâs time in last yearâs race was 47 minutes 3.60 seconds.
Ashton and Mc Dowall collected the winnerâs purse of US$1,300 each.
Taking second place behind Ashton was Kirk Brown of Jamaica. Brownâs time was 40 minutes 29.62 seconds, in his first outing in the event. He added $100 to his second place earnings of US$700, for being the first to reach the halfway mark.
The trio of Michael Biscette, Winsbert Sylvester and Nevil Dupre, all of St Lucia, finished in that order, to win themselves $500, $250 and $100, respectively.
Copping the second place among the female international field, was Kenisha Pascal of Grenada, in 54 minutes 46.71 seconds, with St Luciaâs Chantel Glasgow clocking 59 minutes 26.88 seconds; Kerina Hooper of St Vincent and the Grenadines was fourth in one hour, one minute 57.94 seconds.
Pascal got US$700, with Glasgow gaining $500 and Hooper, $250.
Two athletes from Montserrat, Ja-moi Phillip and Keanu Barnwell, competed in the race.
Sundayâs event had official sanction from the Association of National Olympic Committees of the OECS (ANOCES), and forms part of that organizationâs support for sporting activities in the subregion.
