Windward Islands Volcanoes remain winless in PCL

The Windward Islands Volcanoes fell to Barbados Pride by 135 runs in the fourth round of the regional four-day Digicel Professional Cricket League (PCL) here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, last Sunday.

 Set 310 to win, the Volcanoes were dismissed for 174 in 64.5 overs. Barbadian–born Kyle Mayers with 76, in which he struck nine fours, and Taryck Gabriel, 33, were the main scorers.

  For Barbados Pride, Kenroy Williams had 4 for 36 and Justin Greaves, 2 for 16. 

When the match began last Thursday, Barbados Pride made 360, after being inserted by the Windward Islands Volcanoes. Anthony Alleyne scored 82, Kevin Stoute, 84, Kenroy Williams, 55 and Shayne Moseley and Justin Greaves, 54 each.

Part-time bowler and captain Tyrone Theophile took 5 for 56 and Shane Shillingford, 3 for 102. 

The Volcanoes replied with 220, with Roland Cato scoring 64, Kyle Mayers, 56 not out and Kaveem Hodge, 38.

 Kenroy Williams took 3 for 21 and Vincentian-born Jomel Warrican had 3 for 49.

 Barbados Pride, batting a second time, scored 171 all out. Mario Rampersaud made 36 not out.

Bowling for the Volcanoes, former West Indies off spinner Shane Shillingford took 5 for 74, Kyle Mayers, 2 for 21 and Kaveem Hodge, 2 for 32.

 It was the third loss for the Volcanoes, as they remain in last spot on the six-team table, with 15.6 points.

 On the other hand, it was Barbados Pride’s first win and put them in fourth spot on 23.2 points.

 Defending champions Guyana Jaguars are at the top of the standings with 46.6 points, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force second on 41.4, the Leeward Hurricanes sit third on 38.6 points and the Jamaica Scorpions, fifth, with 18.2 points.

 The Jaguars enhanced their standing with an innings and 217-run win over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground in Trinidad and Tobago, while Jamaica Scorpions stung the Leeward Hurricanes by 157 runs at Warner Park in St Kitts.

 When the tournament resumes November 30, the Windward Islands Volcanoes meet Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force will be hosted by the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Warner Park in St Kitts and Guyana Jaguars will be at home at the Providence Stadium in Guyana to battle with Barbados Pride.
