Quarter finalists known in SVG Masters cricket

The eight teams that will have a crack at the 2017 SVG Masters Cricket crown, are known.

Advancing from Zone A are defending champions Teachers Credit Union North East, along with Stanley Browne Stubbs, Bequia Cricket Association Masters and A R & G Ptani. From Zone B come RSVG Police, Mustique Company, Computec Belfongo and North Leeward.

When the last set of preliminary matches were staged last weekend, chalking up victories were Belfongo, Marriaqua, Stubbs, North East and North Leeward.

Belfongo had a 29-run win over Ruddy’s Electrical Barrouallie at Sion Hill.

Belfongo scored 126 for 6 from their 20 overs. Arrington Burgin hit 26 and Elvis Browne, 23.

Bowling for Barrouallie, Aldrick Bulze picked up 3 for 28.

In response, Barrouallie scored 97 all out in 18.5 overs.  Kenneth Douglas, in a losing effort, struck 33.

There were two wickets each for Sylvannus Morgan, Rohan King, Arrington Burgin, and Elvis Browne.

At Park Hill, Marriaqua defeated JG and Sons Glamorgan by 56 runs.

Marriaqua posted 137 for 5 from their 20 overs, with Eric Nanton contributing 47 not out and Orlando Lavia, 28 not out and Orslie Sutherland, 24.

Leslie Jack, with 3 for 19, was the pick of Glamorgan’s bowlers.

Grantley Constance then scalped 3 for 8, Eric Nanton, 2 for 7 and Orlando Lavia, 2 for 17, combined to shackle Glamorgan for 81 for 7 from their maximum 20 overs.

Then on Sunday, Stubbs saw off Bequia Cricket Association by six wickets at Sion Hill.

Bequia Cricket Association made 111 for 8 from their 20 overs. Calvin Hazell made 36 and Victor Williams, 33 not out.

Ricky Thomas, 4 foir 11 and Anthony Richards, 2 for 15, were Stubbs’ most successful bowlers.

Christopher Campbell then hit 66 not out, to see Stubbs to 112 for 4 from 18.3 overs. Jefferson Richards took 3 for 23, bowling for Bequia Cricket Association.

Also at the Sion Hill venue, Belfongo stopped Pastures by 33 runs.

Belfongo made 120 for 8 from their 20 overs.  Joycema Browne hit 28 and Sylvannus Morgan, 20.

Lennox Samuel had 3 for 26 and Israel Abrahm, 2 for 22, bowling for Pastures, who were then dismissed for 87 in 16.1 overs.

Alvin Hope led Pastures’ failed run chase, with 40, while Rohan King took 3 for 16 and Samuel Holder, 3 for 20, bowled Belfongo to their second win on the weekend.

At Park Hill, North East registered a 42-run win over Ptani.

Deighton Butler hammered 78 not out and Elton Williams, 57, to prop up North East’s innings of 182 for 3 from their 20 overs.

A rain delay resulted in a revised target and 118 from 13 overs was set for Ptani.

From their allotment, Ptani could only reach 76 for 6.

Rain also restricted the encounter between North Leeward and Barrouallie at Buccament, to 10 overs per side.

Scores: Barrouallie – 37 for 5 from their 10 overs, North Leeward – 39 for 1 from 4.1 overs. Orville Franklyn, 29 not out.

The competition takes a break this weekend, to facilitate the regional four-day match in the Professional Cricket League, between the Windward Islands Volcanoes and Barbados Pride at Arnos Vale.
