Rain parades on SVG Masters Cricket weekend

Because of rain, play was possible in only three of seven scheduled matches, while another was decided by the default route, as the SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket Competition continued last weekend.

The abandoned matches were A R & G Trucking Ptani versus Stanley Browne’s Stubbs; Teachers Credit Union North East against Kirk DaSilva’s LaCroix and Mustique Company Masters against North Leeward.

And, while the sun shone on Saturday, Mustique Company Masters won by default from Sion Hill, with the match fixtured for the Buccament Bay Playing Field.

But there were victories for RSVG Police, Bequia Cricket Association Masters and Pastures.

RSVG Police recorded a 43-run win over Computec Belfongo.

Parnell Browne – 42, Joseph Bascombe – 30 and Elgin Richards – 26, saw RSVG Police to 166 for 6 off 20 overs.

Bowling for Belfongo, Felix Greaves had 2 for 23 and Denis Byam 2 for 42.

Greaves then struck 44 and Sylvanus Morgan – 26, but theirs were insufficient, as Belfongo were locked down for 123 for 9 from their 20 overs. Elmore Alexander grabbed 5 for 26.

Bequia Cricket Association Masters defeated Marriaqua by six wickets.

Marriaqua scored 112 for 4 off 16 overs, as the match was reduced because of rain. Leroy Nanton with 38 and Ricky King, 23 not out, were the main contributors to Marriaqua’s total, as Rohan Blake picked up 2 for 10 and Victor Williams had 2 for 17.

In reply, Bequia Cricket Association Masters reached 116 for 4 off 15 overs; Ronnie Gregg made 41 not out.

Bowling for Marriaqua, Leroy Nanton took 2 for 16 and Wendell Parris 2 for 21.

And, Pastures beat Ruddy’s Electrical Barrouallie by five wickets.

Barrouallie mustered 66 for 6 off 16 overs, as that match too was reduced because of rain.

Aaron Bentick was Barrouaillie’s top scorer with 31, as Rohan Ash had 2 for 6 and Lennox Samuel 2 for 8.

Robbie Hackshaw compiled 34 and Rohan Ash – 23, as Pastures crossed the line at 68 for 5, with nine balls to spare.

Barrouallie’s bowling saw Samuel Byam taking 2 for 7 and Aaron Bentick 2 for 8.(RT)
