North East two from two in Masters’ Cricket Competition

Defending champions of the SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket Competition, the Teachers Credit Union North East defeated Stanley Browne’s Stubbs by 103 runs on Sunday at the Park Hill Playing Field.

It was North East’s second win, after downing Bequia Cricket Association in their first outing.

North East reached 192 for 5 off 20 overs. Deighton Butler scored 39, Harvey Pope, 34, Hollis John, 34 not out, Winsbert Springer, 26 and Al Dublin, 23.

Micah Joseph grabbed 2 for 35, bowling for Stubbs, who were dismissed for 89 in 13.1 overs.

Stubbs were undone by the bowling of Hollis John who took 2 for 15 and Joseph Medford’s 2 for 35.

Also on Sunday, at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia, Bequia Cricket Association Masters defeated Kirk DaSilva’s La Croix by 90 runs.

Bequia Cricket Association Masters tallied 195 for 8 off 20 overs, with Erickson Browne posting 54 and Calvin Hazell, 22.

Bowling for La Croix, Amos Richards picked up 3 for 36 and Raymond Ryan, 2 for 17.

La Croix replied with 105 for 7 off 20 overs, with Benedict Phillips scoring 20.

For Bequia, Victor Williams took 2 for 10, Alan Foyle, 2 for 19 and Calvin Hazell, 2 for 22.

Meanwhile at Buccament, Computec Belfongo stopped North Leeward by 28 runs.

Belfongo made 140 for 9 off 20 overs. Junior Bacchus scored 46 and Felix Greaves, 22.

Simon Jack, with 4 for 14, was North Leeward’s best bowler. North Leeward’s response was 112 for 9 off 20 overs. Orville Franklyn made 70 not out, Rohan King had 3 for 16 Ted Roberts, 2 for 21.

But  Sion Hill won by default from Ruddy’s Electrical Barrouallie in their intended match at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Two matches were played, A R & G Trucking Ptani defeated J G & Sons Glamorgan by 22 runs at the Park Hill Playing Field on Saturday.

Ptani scored 169 for 6 off 20 overs, with Zenus James making 52 not out, Jerome Samuel, 49 and Cassius Welcome, 23.

For Glamorgan, Emrol Samuel had 3 for 37. Glamorgan Masters replied with 147 for 9 off 20 overs. Michael Stevens made 53 and Augustus Mofford, 39.

Michael Jack grabbed 5 for 20 and Cassius Welcome, 2 for 22, bowling for Ptani.

Also at the Buccament Playing Field, RSVG Police beat Pastures by 7 wickets.

Pastures fell for 61 all out off 18.5 overs. Sigmon Allen had 3 for 5 and Elmore Alexander, 3 for 9. RSVG Police replied with 63 for 3 off 7.5 overs. Lennox Samuel took 3 for 12.

Seven matches are carded for this weekend.

On Saturday, from 2 p.m., Mustique Company Masters play RSVG Police at Buccament and at Park Hill, Stubbs engage Ptani.

Sunday’s action commences at 10 a.m., with Sion Hill hosting Belfongo at Sion Hill; Bequia Cricket Association Masters take on Marriaqua at Park Hill and Pastures and Barrouallie face off at Buccament.

The 2 p.m. matches pit Mustique Company Masters versus North Leeward at Buccament and North East oppose Glamorgan at Buccament.
