SVGCA Inc, CWI gear up academy members

The collaborative efforts of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc and Cricket West Indies have afforded members of the Lennox John Cricket Academy to be well attired.

The 20 members who make up the first cohort have received training apparel, a pair of whites for competitive matches, as well as a pair of cricket boots.

Bearing the cost of the clothing was Cricket West Indies, previously, the West Indies Cricket Board, while the SVGCA Inc was responsible for the footwear.

Additionally, the SVGCA Inc has bought a set of gear for use by the academy players, for training and competition.

Administrative head of the Lennox John Cricket Academy Cleton Burnett, speaking at last Saturday’s presentation of the kits at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, indicated that the SVGCA Inc spends approximately $5,000 per month for the operation of the academy.

He disclosed that each member of the academy receives a weekly stipend of $15 towards their cost of transportation to attend training on Saturdays.

Additionally, Burnett revealed that the academy’s selectees are given fruits prior to the commencement of training, and a snack at the end.

The Lennox John Cricket Academy was launched in March and has Irvin Warrican as the head coach, with Bertram Stapleton, Kenroy Martin and Samantha Lynch, assistant coaches.

The training period for the first selectees of the academy is set to culminate in November this year.
