Windward Islands Schools’ Games 2017 to conclude tomorrow

The 2017 CBN/Winlott Inc Windward Islands Schools’ Games (WISG) concludes tomorrow.

The final day of competition will see male basketball at Arnos Vale, while netball and male volleyball take place at the Gomea venue.

Meanwhile, today’s fixtures have female volleyball taking place at Gomea; football at Arnos Vale and female basketball at Arnos Vale as well. All disciplines today and tomorrow will feature Grenada against St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines versus Dominica.

Slated for yesterday, Thursday, were male volleyball at Gomea, with netball and male basketball at the Keartons hard court.

The match-ups in all three disciplines were Dominica against St Lucia and SVG taking on Grenada.

Results, up to last Wednesday, have Grenada taking the track and field discipline, and out front in football and female basketball, with Dominica leading in female volleyball.

When the track and field discipline concluded last Wednesday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, with events which were completed after rain interrupted Monday’s proceedings, Grenada topped the standings with 259 points.

St Lucia was second with 241, St Vincent and the Grenadines, 196 and Dominica, 182.

Grenada’s unbeaten run of two matches in football saw them handing Dominica a 4-0 defeat and humbling St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1.

A goal each from Darren Modoo (14th minute), Keon Alexander (16th); Leon Braveboy (56th) and Earldon Millette (74th), did the trick for Grenada over Dominica. Against SVG, Rahim Stephens’ eighth-minute strike was followed by items by Alexander in the 17th and Millette in the 30th minute. Hosni Chandler had put the Vincentians ahead in the fourth minute.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, on the back of goals from Chandler (8th), Jamal Bishop (10th), Tevin Davis (27th) and Javal Samuel (45th), were on the score sheet in their 4-1 side-stepping of St Lucia. Alvinu Myers replied with a 20th-minute goal for St Lucia.

And, Dominica and St Lucia played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday. Alec Joseph scored in the 10th minute for St Lucia, with Marcellus Browney levelling the match in the 53rd minute.

All matches were played at the Chili Playing Field.

In female basketball, Grenada outlasted Dominica 46-41, St Lucia won from SVG 20-6, after the hosts forfeited the match; Dominica beat St Lucia 52-36 and Grenada thrashed SVG 91-21.

Meanwhile, Dominica is in pole position after winning both their matches in female volleyball. Dominica ousted Grenada 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17) and in a five-setter, beat St Lucia 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 13-25, 15-12). In other results, St Lucia blanked SVG 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-19) and Grenada beat St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18).

In male volleyball, SVG beat St Lucia 3-1 (25-18, 25-26, 25-20, 25-10), Grenada overcame Dominica 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-13), while in male basketball, Grenada outlasted Dominica 39-32 and SVG got the better of St Lucia 63-47.
