SVG women win one, lose two in Grenada play-offs

St Vincent and the Grenadines female cricketers squared the two match 50–over series 1-1, but lost the lone 20/20 fixture against their Grenadian counterparts last weekend.

Playing at Progress Park in Grenada, the hosts won the first 50-over encounter last Friday by two wickets.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, SVG women posted 236 for 5 from their 50 overs. That total was mainly through the efforts of veteran player Cordel Jack, who slammed 126.

Jack’s innings contained 18 fours and 2 sixes, while Stacy Ann Adams belted 7 fours in her 49. The two had shared in a third-wicket stand of 170, in which Jack was dominant, scoring 92.

The Vincentians’ total was enhanced by 39 extras contributed by the Grenadians. Akeira Peters was the most successful bowler for the hosts, taking 2 for 40.

Grenada’s women, led by scores of 67, 57 and 27 by Anisha Thomas, Afy Fletcher and Debbie Ann Lewis respectively, saw their team to 238 for 8 in 44.3 overs. Thomas struck 6 fours and Fletcher,11.

Cordel Jack was SVG’s best bowler, taking 3 for 43 and Shenezia Daniel picked off 3 for 48.

Parity was restored the following day, as Jack with another all-round effort, piloted SVG to an eight-wicket triumph.

Jack snared 4 for 16, and with help from Stacy Ann Adams, 2 for 21 and Jennisha Hackshaw, 2 for 25, combined to dismiss Grenada for 146 in 35.5 overs.

Carena Noel, 32 and Akeira Peters, 23, were Grenada’s best contributors.

Jack, then muscled 11 fours in her 56 not out and Juliana Nero stroked 30, as SVG strolled to 148 for 2 in 32 overs.

Grenada, though, landed the last punch on Sunday in the one-off 20/20 match.

SVG women were dismissed for 77, to which the Grenadian women replied with 79 for 2, to win by eight wickets.

The matches were used to provide selectors with an idea of the available talent for the Windwards team for the West Indies tournament carded for here in SVG later this month.

This tournament bowls off April 20.
