Zefal Bailey rides off 2017 with cycling win

Zefal Bailey had it all his way, making it easy like Sunday morning, by being the first among the elite bunch to clinch a 26-mile road race, put on by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union.

Staged last Sunday morning, from Kingstown to Bridgetown in Biabou, then making a loop to Mount Pleasant, back to Bridgetown, to end at Argyle, Bailey breasted the finishing tape, stopping the clock at 1 hour – 22 minutes – 24 seconds.

Second was Enroy Lewis in 1 hour – 26 minutes – 38 seconds, and completing the podium was Lucky Antrobus, in 1 hour – 27 minutes – 57 seconds.

Outside the top three was Matthew Gule, a medical student attending school here.

In his debut event, Gule clocked 1 hour – 35 minutes – 45 seconds, while Samuel Lyttle and Marlon Antrobus, who started the event, had to abort their rides because of mechanical problems.

Taking the Masters’ category was Peter Durrant, in 1 hour – 3 minutes – 02 seconds.

The masters, though, rode from Kingstown to Bridgetown and ended at Argyle, a distance of 18 miles.

Finishing second in the Masters was Orel Baptiste, who timed 1 hour – 7 minutes – 38 seconds and third was Curtis Lewis, in 1 hour – 19 minutes – 10 seconds.

The date and venue for the next race for this month is yet to be determined. However, the ET Joshua Airport facility was announced last Sunday as the preferred choice.
