Pope puts Victors One on their knees

Gidron Pope swished Victors One’s bowling to all parts of the Arnos Vale Playing Field last Sunday, to lead Flow Radcliffe to an emphatic nine-wicket win over Victors One, in the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/20 Cricket Competition.

Pope, a new member of the Radcliffe set-up, pounded 12 sixes and 3 fours, in his 61-ball knock, to post 118.

Romano Pierre, who opened the batting with Pope, scored 25 not out, and 29 extras were conceded by Victors One, as Flow Radcliffe responded with 173 for 1, in 17.4 overs.

Radcliffe simply made light work of Victors One’s 169 for 4 from their 19 overs, because of a late start.

Donwell Hector hit 3 fours and a pair of sixes in his even 50, while Miles Bascombe, who stroked 5 fours and 3 sixes in making 48 and Alston Bobb – 32, were Victors One’s main contributors with the bat.

The win confirmed the defending champions and Zone A winners, as well as a place in Super Six round of the competition, which features the two top teams from each of the three zones.

Victors One were smarting from a win on Saturday, when they defeated Combined Youths by 59 runs at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Victors One, on the back of Miles Bascombe’s 72, in which he powered 6 fours and 5 sixes and Donwell Hector’s 33, reached 187 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs.

Combined Youths’ reply stopped at 128 for 6 from their 20 overs. Jeremy Joseph – 26 not out and Kevin Samuel – 25, were main scorers.

Alston Bobb, with 3 for 12, was Victors One’s most successful bowler.

Combined Youths, though, resisted Owia Stars on Sunday at the same venue, to win by four wickets.

Omar Lavia – 33 and 24 extras, accounted for Owia Stars’ total of 115 all out in 19.3 overs.

Bowling for Combined Youths, Oneil Endeavour took 3 for 15, Keason Williams – 2 for 16 and Kevin Samuel – 2 for 24.

In response, Combined Youths took 19.3 overs to cross the line at 118 for 6.

Sammy Peters was the top scorer with 23 not out, as Shem Browne picked off 3 for 18.

Owia Stars were looking to make it back-to-back wins, having beaten Triumph United by six wickets on Saturday at Arnos Vale One.

Batting first, Triumph United scored 132 for 7 from their 20 overs, with Andrew Glasgow making 42 and they were aided by 29 extras.

Shem Browne then continued his good form, blasting 67, inclusive of 10 fours and 2 sixes, and with Owen Lorraine – 34, saw Owia Stars to 134 for 4 from 17.5 overs.
