Rain dampens NLA NW T/20 Sunday matches

Rain affected all matches on Sunday in the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams Twenty/20 Cricket Competition, staged by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.

But there was enough sunshine for Smashers, Victors One and Combined Youths to make hay.

At the Sion Hill Playing Field, Smashers undid Victors Two by 31 runs, in a match which saw a revised target to make amends for lost time from rain.

Smashers scored 138 for 5 from their 16 overs; Kirton Lavia hit 38 and Rawdon Bentick – 34.

Bowling for Victors Two, Leon Quashie took 2 for 20, but his team could only get to 69 for 5 in 11.3 overs when play ended.

The top performers for Victors Two with the bat were Adinol Richards, who scored 28 and Marcus Mc Coy – 20.

Courtney Joyette and Javon Samuel both had 2 for 11, bowling for Smashers.

Meanwhile, at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, Victors One downed Triumph United by 36 runs.

Led by Miles Bascombe’s 75 not out from 38 balls and Alson Bobb’s 37, Victors One got up to 138 for 4 from 15 overs.

Triumph United were 28 for 2 from 7 overs when rain halted play.

And at Sion Hill’s second fixture, Combined Youths beat Strike Eagles by 51 runs.

Combined Youths scored 96 for 4 from 12 overs, led by Frankie Farrell’s 30 and 23 scored by Ricky Hoyte.

Strike Eagles most successful bowler was Glenroy Wilson, who picked up 2 for 17.

Geron Wylllie then grabbed 4 for 13 and O’Neil Endeavour – 3 for 11, to send Strike Eagles packing for 45 in 103 overs.

And the other match at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field was abandoned without a ball being bowled, and would have featured Carl Joseph Law Chambers and Bequia Cricket Association.

Twelve matches are carded for this weekend.

Saturday’s matches, which are set for 2 p.m. start, pit Smashers versus Radcliffe Too at Arnos Vale One in Group B, with another Group B fixture slated for Buccament between Police and Victors Two.

Two Group C matches see Guardian General Saints taking on Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward at Arnos Vale Two and at Sion Hill, Belfongo engage French Verandah SVG Community College.

Sunday’s 10 a.m. matches feature Bequia Cricket Association against North Leeward at Sion Hill in Group C; Team Rivals face off with RW Sporting World SVG Community College at Arnos Vale One in Group B.

Other group matches are Police versus Smashers at Buccament and Radcliffe Too battling Victors Two at Arnos Vale Two.

Concluding the weekend’s slate are Flow Radcliffe taking on Strike Eagles at Sion Hill in one of three Group A matches. The other matches in that grouping feature Combined Youths against Triumph United at Buccament and Victors One play Owia at Arnos Vale Two.

Sunday’s other 2 p.m. match is in Group C and has Saints entertaining French Verandah SVG Community College at Arnos Vale One.(RT)
