TBPO Softball Cricket set for completion Sunday

The 2016 National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organization (TBPO) 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition is set for completion this Sunday, from 12:30 p.m. at the Dauphine Playing Field.

Before Sunday’s planned final, the semi-final showdowns are scheduled for Saturday.{{more}}

From 12:30 p.m., Nice Radio Clinchers take on Bank of SVG All Starz and from 3 p.m., defending champions Gairy’s Construction Simple Boyz engage Stingers.

The four got to this phase with wins last weekend at the same venue.

In getting to this regular point of the competition, Simple Boyz registered an 89-run win over Richmond Hill United last Sunday.

Simple Boyz’ 117 for 6 in 20 overs revolved around Jabarri Cunningham’s 57 and Eldon Morris’ 25 not out. Bowling for Richmond Hill United, Kenneth Lewis took 2 for 12 and Courtney Joyette had 2 for 41.

Eldon Morris then snared 4 for 2 and Kenny Hunte, 3 for 8, to send Richmond Hill United packing for 28 all out in 11 overs.

Meanwhile, Stingers earned the right to stop Simple Boyz from adding another lien on the title, when they won by 51 runs over EZ Woods Toppers, also on Sunday.

Stingers scored 171 for 9 in 20 overs, with Calbert Simmons making 75 and Vincent Cupid, 31.

Kemuel King took 3 for 25, Kenroy Martin 2 for 22 and Darren Henry 2 for 24, bowling for Toppers.

In their reply, Toppers could only reach 120 for 6 in 20 overs. Sheldon Da Souza led with 56, while Adonis Nanton picked up 3 for 27 and Azmon Forbes 2 for 26, bowling for Stingers.

Sunday’s other quarter final fixture saw Clinchers advancing via a 38-run triumph over Young Stars.

Okeiph Andrews, 29 and Oheyon Toby, 28, were the principal scorers in Clinchers’ 126 for 8 in 17 overs.

Bowling for Young Stars, Joe Marshall picked up 2 for 5 and Romel Jack, 2 for 30.

However, Young Stars’ batting could not cope with the bowling of Rajiv Roberts, who grabbed 3 for 10, Sherman Bailey took 2 for 0 and Danroy Fergus – 2 for 22, as they folded for 88 in 17 overs.

Joseph Marshall top scored with 22 in Young Stars’ response.

It was also a comfortable passage to the last four for Bank of SVG All Starz on Saturday, when they faced off with CGM Gallagher Novice.

All Starz posted 145 for 6 from 17 overs. Keyon Boyea stroked 62 and Ron Adams – 22. Bowling for Novice, Andre Hunte took 3 for 27.

Novice’s batting did not ignite, and they faltered for 76 in 13.4 overs. Only Vernardo Primus’ 26 was any score of note.

Bowling for All Starz, Ron Adams had 3 for 3, Westrick Straugh – 2 for 3 and Dwayne Williams – 2 for 17.

Before this Sunday’s final, the two losing semi- finalists will meet in the third place play-off from 10 a.m.

The presentation ceremony takes place following the final.(RT)
