TBPO Softball Cricket Competition hit by ‘walk off’

Despite pleas at the start of the 2016 National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organization’s 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition for tolerance, some players have not taken heed and last Sunday, one team had to forfeit their match, following a walk off by two players.{{more}}

Reports say that two of Sunset Strikers players left the playing area of the Dauphine Playing Field, thus reducing their depleted team to six; hence the match was discontinued and awarded to Dr Thomas Injectors.

At the point of the walk off of the two players, Dr Thomas Injectors were 184 for 4 in 13.4 overs, with Javon Nero making 49, Peter Richards – 43 and Damion Allen – 40.

When the competition opened in September, chair of the softball competition Ashford Wood, in his remarks, said, “For this 2016 competition, we are appealing to teams (that) if you have any issues, feel free to approach us so that we can sort them out.”

Wood called on all parties to address matters of concern to them, to avoid another “bacchanal”.

The two other scheduled matches on Sunday went the distance, and resulted in wins for Richmond Hill and Toppers. Richmond Hill United won by two runs over Snipers.

Richmond Hill United made 89 all out in 17.4 overs, with Marvin Harry top scoring with 18. Bowling for Snipers, Jason Williams took 4 for 10 and Emmanuel Baptiste, 2 for 8.

Snipers fell short of the target, dismissed for 87 in 19.4 overs. Saclin Williams made 16 not out. Kenneth Lewis picked up 3 for 19 and Winston Holder 2 for 19, bowling for Richmond Hill United.

And, Toppers recorded a 31-run triumph over Dipcon Road Warriors.

Toppers’ total of 120 for 6 off 15 overs, was on the strength of 25 each from the bats of Marcus Hackshaw and Kenroy Martin, with Joel Patterson contributing 20.

In response, Dipcon Road Warriors were cornered at 89 for 7 from their corresponding 15 overs.

Collis Baird – 28 not out and Jamal Gould – 25 not out, were the main scorers, while Darren Henry picked up 2 for 4, bowling for Toppers.(RT)
