Belfongo stop Mustique in Masters Cricket

Computec Belfongo stopped Mustique from making it four wins in a row in the SVG Masters Twenty/20 Cricket Competition last Sunday at the Mustique Playing Field.

Playing in the competition for the first time, Mustique were on a roll, having beaten defending champions – RSVG Police, 2014 and 2015 runners-up- Sion Hill and Rate Your Boys Challengers.{{more}}

But Belfongo had other ideas, as they came out winners by four wickets.

Mustique posted 171 for 5 off 20 overs, with Felix Greaves making 102 not out.

Junior Bacchus had 2 for 27, bowling for Belfongo, who replied with 173 for 6 off 19.2 overs. Jecema Browne crafted 63 not out and Elton Williams, 36.

Michael Charles took 2 for 30 and Victor Williams 2 for 32, bowling for Mustique.

Other winners on the weekend were Stanley Browne’s Stubbs, St Vincent Cooperative Bank Ptani, Bequia Cricket Association Masters, North East, Ruddy’s Electrical Barrouallie, Sion Hill and Coreas Hazells Inc North Leeward.

Stubbs defeated J G & Sons Glamorgan Masters by 20 runs on Saturday at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Stubbs scored 129 for 7 off 20 overs. Dawnley Joseph made 50, while Mc Neil Morgan took 2 for 17.

Glamorgan made 109 for 9 off 20 overs; McNeil Morgan got 35 and James George, 24 not out.

Basil Andrews had 2 for 20 and Micah Joseph, 2 for 29.

Also on Saturday, Ptani beat Park Hill by 33 runs at Park Hill.

Ptani amassed 149 for 7 off 20 overs. Jerome Samuel made 33, Isaac Haywood, 32, and Elvis Charles and Cassius Welcome both hit 23.

Oscar Ryan got 2 for 7, while Elsworth Francis and Leopold Simmons both had 2 for 27.

Park Hill responded with 116 for 3 off 20 overs, with Alston Ryan making 42 not out and Reynold Maingot – 35 not out.

On Sunday at Park Hill, Bequia Cricket Association Masters defeated Marriaqua by six wickets.

Marriaqua made 85 for 4 off 15 overs, as the match was reduced because of a late start.

Elmundo Shoy reached 49 not out. Bequia Cricket Association Masters scored 89 for 4 off 11.3 overs. Victor Williams made 26 and Ronnie Gregg, 25.

Also at Park Hill, North East outdid Kirk Da Silva’s La Croix by nine wickets.

La Croix scored 73 for 6 off 20 overs. Patrick Thomas had 21, while Cornelius Springer took 2 for 12.

North East reached 77 for 1 off 7 overs; Deighton Butler made 29 and Harvey Pope, 26.

At Sion Hill, Barrouallie whipped defending champions RSVG Police Masters by five runs.

Barrouallie were 111 for 6 off 20 overs; Ashley Cordice got 27 and Lenif Hector – 24.

Elgin Richards took 2 for 11, bowling for RSVG Police, who then were held to 106 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Elmore Alexander top scored with 36, while Augustine Bentick had bowling figures of 2 for 12 and Samuel Byam, 2 for 21.

Meanwhile, Sion Hill dumped Rate Your Boys Challengers by 82 runs at the Sion Hill venue.

Sion Hill scored 158 for 4 off 20 overs. Bill Edwards stroked 63, Edgerton Medford 30 and Joseph Carrington 28.

Joseph Stephens snared 3 for 21 for Challengers, who scored 76 for 9 0ff 20 overs.

Kemron Fraser made 21.

Joseph Medford grabbed 4 for 7 and Bill Edwards 2 for 14.

And at Buccament, North Leeward defeated Pastures by four wickets.

Pastures scored 120 for 8 off 20 overs. Wallistan Stapleton took 2 for 11, Angus Cyrus – 2 for 14 and Ancil Hooper 2 for 21.

Winston Skinner made 32, William Edwards – 28 and Wallistan Stapleton – 24, as North Leeward replied with 121 for 6 from 16.1 overs. Robbie Hackshaw got 2 for 20 and Saville Hope, 2 for 23.

Nine matches are scheduled for this weekend.

Saturday’s matches, which bowl off at 2 p.m., see North East taking on Ptani at Arnos Vale One; Park Hill face Glamorgan at Sion Hill and Mustique engage North Leeward at Buccament.

On Sunday, from 10 a.m., La Croix play Marriaqua at Sion Hill; RSVG Police and Sion Hill rumble at Arnos Vale One and at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia, Bequia host Stubbs.

The 2 p.m. matches pit Mustique against Pastures at Sion Hill, Barrouallie face Rate Yo Boys Challengers at Arnos Vale One and Belfongo take on North Leeward at Buccament.(RT)
