System Three take National Football Club Championships premiership

System Three was last Sunday night ordained as the new title holders of the top flight of local football supremacy, the premiership.

The Victoria Park was the venue for their coronation, as System Three toppled the reigning champions Guardian General Hope International 3-1 in the final match.{{more}}

System Three ended on 32 points and Hope International, 26, after 13 matches.

Entering Sunday’s match, Hope International had to win by three clear goals, while a draw would have assured System Three the top prize.

Hope International’s climb became synonymous with reaching La Soufrière, when in the 8th minute, Curlon Joseph put System Three one up from the penalty spot in bizarre circumstances, when Hope International’s Kendol Douglas handled the ball in the penalty area deliberately.

It got from bad to worse in the 25th minute, when Joseph got his second penalty oF the night, after Hope International’s defender Kamarl Providence committed a foul in the area.

Hope International, though, was able to pull a goal back soon after the resumption, when Kemron Osment netted in the 48th minute.

But that was all Hope International could achieve, as a solo effort by Joseph in the 80th minute put the contest to rest and the title in the arms of System Three.

The loss by Hope International put them third, while Bequia United, with 28 points, docked in second.

Campdonia Chelsea, with 25 points, rounded off the top four finishers in the 14-team table.

System Three pocketed $10,000; Bequia United, $6,000, while Hope International secured $3,000 and Campdonia- Chelsea, $1,000.

The rest of the standings shows Je Belle – 5th; Sion Hill – 6th, Avenues – 7th, Pastures – 8th, Greiggs – 9th and SV United – 9th.

Set for demotion are Toni Stores Jugglers, Parkside Rollers, Prospect 1982 and Dove FC, while Volcanoes – First Division winner and runner-up, Richland Park Pride and Joy will head to the premiership.

This, as the organizer, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, seeks to reduce the number to 12.

Honours list

The top performers in the division were also rewarded with trophies for commanding the divisional awards.

Adjudged the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper was Kevan Henry of Je Belle, with Bequia United’s Ozani Ollivierre, the Most Outstanding Defender.

The award of Most Outstanding Midfielder was pouched by System Three’s Ezra Alleyne and the topping the goal scoring department was Curlon Joseph, also of System Three. Joseph netted 15 goals.
