IT DAT Academy invitational meet to be calendar event

The IT DAT Academy’s inaugural Invitational Development Track Meet, which was held last Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, is set to become an annual affair.

Head of the IT DAT Academy Michael Ollivierre told SEARCHLIGHT that last Saturday’s event was hosted to give the athletes some competition. He lamented that there is not enough competition on the local circuit, hence his academy stepping in to fill the void.

Ollivierre declared the event a success, despite the wet conditions which existed at the venue.

The main course saw Sorenya Miller of IT DAT leading the way in the female division, with victories in the 300 and 500 metre events, recording times of 43.85 seconds and 1 minute 25.44 seconds respectively. Shantell Williams of Chatoyer Track Club topped the female sprinters with a quick 19.36 seconds in winning the 150 metres.

In the Male Senior Division, Wendy Hendrickson of the Community College led the sprinters, winning the 150 metre race in a time of 16.74 seconds.

Kimorie Shearman of IT DAT, a Commonwealth Games representative, sped to wins in the 300 and 500 metres, recording good times of 34.80 seconds and 1minute 07.89 seconds respectively. In the Under 18 Division, T’jaunie Burgin of Chatoyer was the top sprinter, with a fine win in the 150 metres, in a time of 18.70 seconds. There was a double win for Yornik Murray of IT DAT in the 300 and 500 metres, hastening to times of 36.94 seconds and 1 minute 11.47 secs respectively.

Three track clubs, along with representatives from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, participated.(RT)
