The juniors got the title train on the track, doubling up the Bethel High School, as the two re-matched last year’s final with the same outcome.

Central Leeward was always in the ascendancy, taking the quarters 6-3, 14-6, 18-10, and finally 26-12.

When the seniors took to the court, it was a matter of course for Central Leeward when they faced the Bishop’s College Kingstown.

Putting the exclamation mark on their charge for the title, Central Leeward ran out 10-5 at the end of the first period, and at the midway point, still ruled 18-9. By the end of the third quarter, it was Central Leeward leading 31-15 and at the final whistle, the scoreboard read 41-21 in Central Leeward’s favour.

The Central Leeward Secondary also carted off with both individual awards which were adjudicated during the two finals, as Azuba Delpesche was the player of the junior championship match and Aaliyah Anderson, the recipient in the senior showdown.

Coach of the victorious Central Leeward Secondary Moeth Gaymes told SEARCHLIGHT that it was the expected result, as his teams were better prepared.

This, he said, was despite the players not having the annual Barrouallie competition, which they used as warm-up for the schools’ competition.

Gaymes noted that instead they made full use of the hard court at the school to go through their paces.

Before the finals, the Bethel High School, dethroned senior champions, walked over the Emmanuel High School, 37-15, in the third place play-off.

Georgetown Secondary placed third in the junior segment by virtue of North Union Secondary’s forfeiture of the other half of the semi-finals versus the Bethel High.

The other team awards presented went to the zonal winners in both the junior and senior divisions.

The winners in the juniors were the Georgetown Secondary – Zone A, Central Leeward – Zone B, Thomas Saunders Secondary – Zone C and the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua – Zone D.

Bethel High took Zone B of the senior division, with the Georgetown Secondary pouching Zone C and the Emmanuel High School Mespo – Zone D.(RT)
