Cricketers of the year named

The new format of awarding the cricketers of the year was confirmed last Friday night at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association’s annual hosting of its prizegiving and awards ceremony which took place at the Murray Heights Hotel.

Instead of the usual Five Cricketers of the Year, the SVGCA named three Female Cricketers of the Year and three Male Cricketers of the Year.{{more}}

Garifuna Stars and St Vincent and the Grenadines captain Juliana Nero was the top female cricketer of the year, with United Survivors’ Cordell Jack docking in second and Stacy Ann Adams, who plays for JG Tigress, third.

Kenroy Peters was announced as the top male cricketer for 2015, with his Guardian General Saints teammate Sunil Ambris placing second and Victors One’s Keron Cottoy, third.

Taking the Youth Cricketer of Year was Obed Mc Coy, who turns out for Team Rivals.

At last Friday’s ceremony, none of the awardees was on hand to accept their prizes.

Master of Ceremonies Jamal Browne noted that both Peters and Ambris were away on duties with the Windwards Volcanoes in the West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League and Mc Coy was with the West Indies Under-19 training camp preparing for the ICC Youth World Cup next year in Bangladesh.

SEARCHLIGHT is aware that Adams is in Barbados attending a West Indies women’s training squad, while Cottoy is attending the University of the West Indies in Barbados. No explanations though were forthcoming for the absence of Jack and Nero. (RT)
