Three semi-finalists declared in Masters Cricket Competition

St Vincent Cooperative Bank Ptani, Sion Hill and North Leeward are through to the semi-finals of the SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket Tournament.

Ptani earned its berth in the last four by defeating Rate Your Boys Challengers by seven wickets at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.{{more}}

Challengers were dismissed for 79 off 16.5 overs; Noel Samuel hit 23 and Julian Caine – 22.

Bowling for Ptani, Olando Mofford snapped up 3 for 17; Westmore Campbell took 2 for 8 and Adolphus Campbell – 2 for 14.

Cassius Welcome then stroked 42 not out and Alfred Mc Kenzie – 29 not out, to see Ptani to 81 for 3 off 12.5 overs.

At the nearby Arnos Vale One, it was more of a contest between Stanley Browne Stubbs and Sion Hill.

Stubbs rallied to 129 for 7 from their 20 overs, led by a stroke filled 44 from Nixon Mc Lean and 30 from Dawnley Joseph.

Colin Shoy took 2 for 20 and Joseph Medford – 2 for 26, bowling for Sion Hill.

Then Shoy, who was severe on Nixon Mc Lean’s bowling, held together Sion Hill’s lower order to score 37 not out and Bill Edwards made 31, as their team crossed the line at 130 for 6, with four balls to spare.

Cauldric Harry – 4 for 28 and Micah Joseph – 2 for 22, caused some early panic to Sion Hill’s top order, before Shoy came to the rescue.

And, North Leeward upstaged last year’s champions North East on a faster scoring rate after rain ended play.

North East posted 171 for 5 off 20 overs; Winsbert Springer made 54 not out; Deighton Butler and Olanzo Jackson both contributed 31.

At the other end, Jamal Jeffrey picked off 2 for18 and Reginald Jeffrey had 2 for 38.

North Leeward was 92 for 5 off 11.5 overs, when rain stopped play. Walliston Stapleton stroked 21.

And the final preliminary round match saw Bequia Cricket Association Masters overcoming Kirk Da Silva’s La Croix by 120 runs at Arnos Vale One, to set up a quarter-final meeting with RSVG Police this Sunday at Park Hill.

Bequia, led by Ashley Cordice – 79 and Jefferson Richards, totalled 181 for 5 off 20 overs.

Gregory Parsons, with 3 for 17 and Norman Robertson – 2 for 28, were La Croix’s most successful bowlers.

La Croix was sent back in the hutch for 61 all out off 13.3 overs, undone by the bowling of Mikey Ollivierre – 3 for 11, Calvin Hazel – 3 for 22 and Jefferson Richards – 2 for 19.

The first semi-final takes place this Sunday afternoon, with Ptani meeting North Leeward at Arnos Vale Two from 2 p.m. The winner of RSVG Police versus Bequia will meet Sion Hill in the other semi-final.

The final is set for December 13, and will feature the winners of the two semi-finals. (RT)
