Singles titles decided in schools’ Table Tennis Tournament

Andre Mitchell retained the title of male singles winner of the secondary schools’ division of the Schools Table Tennis Tournament, which ended last Friday afternoon at the auditorium of the West St George Secondary School in Belair.{{more}}

Mitchell, however, found his retention spiked with some challenge, from the left-handed Rondre’ John of the Emmanuel High School Mespo, but prevailed 11/7, 11/5, 7/11, 14/12, as the final went four sets.

But that was not the case in the girls’ segment, as Aliyah John of the Girls’ High School defeated Vedel Charles of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown 3-0 (11/7, 11/4, 13/11).

In the primary schools open singles girls finals, Leah Cumberbatch of the Kingstown Preparatory School ousted Zola Fraser of the Gomea Methodist School 2-0 (11/9, 11/3) and in the primary school open singles boys finals, Renson Sayers of the Brighton Methodist got the better of his school mate Kelroy Phillips 11/9, 11/5.

Leah Cumberbatch was voted the Most Valuable Player for the primary school girls, Renson Sayers MVP for the primary boys and Andre Mitchell MVP for the secondary boys.

The St Vincent Grammar School overpowered the West St George Secondary 3-1 to take the secondary schools’ male team title, with Bishop’s College Kingstown – third and the St Martin’s Secondary – fourth.(RT)
