North Leeward cricket organizers regret incident

Chief organizer of the Vinlec North Leeward Sports Association Twenty/20 Cricket Tournament Jules Anthony has expressed regret of an incident which marred one match last Sunday at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.{{more}}

Reports are that a female threw stones and bottles, aimed at the Carlos James Troumaca Starlight team, during and after the quarter-final encounter, also involving Carlos James Peto Stars.

Reports say both incidents were sparked when a Peto Stars batsman was adjudged run out from a direct throw.

Anthony told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that it was “unfortunate,” as the match was a very competitive one.

He, on behalf on his organization, apologized for the incident, but pointed out it was one they had no direct control over.

Anthony, however, suggested that measures may have to be put in place to negate such occurrences in the future.

But amidst the melee, it was Troumaca Starlight who saw the light of day, as they advanced to the semi-finals, winning by two runs over Carlos James Peto Stars.

When Troumaca Starlight batted, they were dismissed for 110 in 18 overs, with Kentish John the top scorer with 30.

Ronique Laborde took 3 for 16 and Vangel Small 3 for 20, bowling for Peto Stars.

But Peto Stars were unravelled by the bowling of Kentish John, who grabbed 3 for 13, Dorson Cottle – 2 for 3 and Kishnel John – 2 for 19. Ronique Laborde’s 34 was the most significant score for Peto Stars.

Saturday saw the last two preliminary matches being contested, resulting in triumphs for Carlos James Rose Bank and Coulls Hill Rangers. Rose Bank humbled Circumstance by 87 runs. Rose Bank posted 210 for 3 from their 20 overs. William Edwards slammed 124 not out, which included 13 sixes and 8 fours and Shelford Caesar added 55 not out.

Circumstance, in response, got to 123 for 6 off 15 overs; Hank Hall struck 43, as Stinson Ince – 3 for 21 and Shawn Lavia 2 for 21, deposited the wickets for Rose Bank.

And, Coulls Hill Rangers dismissed Ruddy’s Electrical by eight wickets.

Ruddy’s Electrical made 105 all out off 12.2 overs; Chrisroy John scored 37.

Peter Morris snared 4 for 15 for Coulls Hill Rangers, who replied with 106 for 2 off 8 overs. Completing a good all-round effort, Peter Morris scored 53.

Colin Shoy led Ruddy’s Electrical’s bowling, taking 2 for 13.(RT)
