Digicel TIP Cricket Camp

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA), in collaboration with Digicel, have successfully completed the Digicel TIP Cricket Camp. The two-day camp, held on 1st and 2nd September, 2015, included 25 players who were selected from talent identification drives on the Windward and Leeward sides of the country.{{more}}

The talent identification programme (TIP) was a brainchild of president Kishore Shallow and his executive, with the prime aim of recruiting young cricket talents between the age of 9 and 15.

According to president Shallow, “the intention was to widen our pool of young cricketers, and begin to nurture them from an early age to increase their prospect of going on to represent our country at all levels.”

The two-day camp was held at the Arnos Vale sporting complex, and was led by a technical team of Stanley Hinds, Deighton Butler, Irvin Warrican, and Cleton Burnett. Other coaches, including Nixon Mclean, Kenroy Peters and Kentish Jacobs, supported the programme. “It was great to have our top coaches in the island involved in the programme, and working with our future cricketers. The feedback from the young players was very encouraging; they are already keen and ready for the next camp; this is an initiative that my executive will maintain and continue to expand,” Shallow further commented.

Later this month, the SVGCA will launch a mentorship programme for national under-15 prospects for the 2016 tournament.

Participants at the two-day camp were: Reshawn Lewis, Kirtney Franklyn, Desroy Hooper, Ojay Matthews, Shahime Richards, Trent Stephens, Nyra Ballantyne, Akeem Alexander, Lio Defreitas, Khalid Horne, Kean Mcmillan, Chadley Chewitt, Maxian Richards, Shackiel Jack, Ivorn Browne, Zachary Alexander, Ethan Yearwood, Handel Roban, Eljay Roban, Paulson Mack, Jessy Durant, Jeffroy Burke, Kemron Straugh, Coby Dabreo, Camarla Caine, Dwayne Henry, Dick-one Caine, and Newton Browne.
