Mc Kree leads Duke to four in a row

Seasoned player Ishama Mc Kree showed his worth to lead Duke, as they completed the fourth title in a row in the Vita Malt Basketball last Sunday night at the Clive Tannis hard court.

Facing dethronement, Duke lost game one, but rebounded to win games two and three, to have the last laugh over the previously unbeaten East Blazers.{{more}}

In drawing level in game two, Duke edged out East Blazers 71 to 69, with Mc Kree spawning 21 points, and for the losers Elton Joseph registered 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Mc Kree was again in his element in the decisive game three, as he poured in 35 points, as Duke won the contest and the title 78-68.

For East Blazers’ Steveon Taylor, who switched camps, his 29 points and 10 rebounds were not enough to land them the win. Mc Kree was named the MVP of the three match finals.

The case was similar in the Second Division, as Rising Stars won over Blazing Heats, also 2-1.

However, it was Rising Stars who took games one and three, as Blazing Heats brought parity to the finals with a triumph in game two.

In levelling the series on Saturday night in game two, Blazing Heats won 44-37.

Leading Blazing Heats’ revival was Nicholas Lewis with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Rising Stars’ Jadley Bynoe had 10 points.

But Rising Stars ran away in game three, winning 72-63. Cody Compton was Rising Stars’ top scorer with his 25 points and Nicholas Lewis scored 17 points, 15 steals clocked 10 rebounds for Blazing Heats.

Meanwhile, president of the BBA Sabrina Mitchell, also sports ambassador of SVG and secretary general of Caribbean Basketball, thanked the sponsors Vita Malt and the St Vincent Brewery, as well as Courts SVG Limited and Frangipani Hotel for their commitment to the youth.

Mitchell also expressed her gratitude to all the business places who gave contributions, along with the tireless volunteers who worked behind the scenes in various aspects of the tournament.

She extended special thanks to the fans who, night after night, attended the games, to ensure that the 17th edition of the tournament was another resounding success.
