Unique Warriors march into NLA First Division cricket final

Ruddy’s Electrical Unique Warriors have hastened their steps, marching into the National Lotteries Authority First Division cricket final.

Putting on their battle gear last weekend at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, Unique Warriors shelled down Smashers, who eventually surrendered.{{more}}

Batting first, Smashers were overrun for 100. Top scoring was Marvin Harry, who struck four fours in his knock of 30 not out.

Bowling for Unique Warriors were Jelano Neil – 3 for 7; Reginald Jeffrey – 3 for 20; and Leon Samuel – 2 for 9.

Smashers’ bowlers had creamed off Unique Warriors’ top order, taking the first five wickets for 17 uns.

But a sixth wicket stand of 74, between William Edwards and Leon Samuel, stitched up Unique Warriors’ response.

Edwards came within five runs of his century, which he had boasted he would have accomplished prior to the match, but gifted his hand for a well played 95. Edwards hit eight fours and three sixes, while Samuel registered a solitary boundary and three sixes in his contribution of 36.

But it was Unique Warriors’ lower order which continued with Edwards to eventually post 248 all out.

Jelano Neil, with seven fours and two sixes, scored 47 and Samuel Holder hit four fours in his 30 not out.

The lead bowler for Smashers was Anthony Charles, who grabbed 4 for 57.

Batting a second time, Smashers were dismissed for 161, with Kuthbert Springer – 50 and Ronald Scott – 31. Springer reeled off two fours and four sixes, while Scott lashed three fours and a six, as both put on 52 runs for the second wicket.

Joseph Medford was the pick of Unique Warriors’ bowling, taking 4 for 42; Leon Samuel took 3 for 64 and Kelon Davis – 2 for 7.

Unique Warriors were given 13 runs to win; however Smashers opted not to take the field, conceding defeat.
