Division Four netball titles shared

No team was able to dominate Division Four of the LIME Vincy Upgrade National Club Netball Tournament, as the League and Knockout competitions resulted in different winners.{{more}}

As was the case in 2014, it was Turbo Plus Maple and ASCO who were crowned the league and knockout winners, respectively.

Last Wednesday, the two lit up the court at the Kingstown Netball Centre in the knockout final.

Maple sped to a 6-3 lead after the first quarter, also led 11-4 at the end of the second and was ahead comfortably 14-8 at the end of the third quarter. This left the few spectators who were on hand to conclude it was a foregone matter, as the next generation of Maple players were on the cusp of completing the double.

But ASCO found their groove, as two of the team’s key members belatedly found their way to the venue, bringing with them a new lease of life to the proceedings. ASCO employed a fast paced approach, which wore down a tiring Maple outfit. And, on the stroke of the final whistle, ASCO converted their last attempt to level the match 16-16, which required 10 minutes of overtime, to unlock the tie.

ASCO inched ahead 20-19 at the end of the first five minutes of extra time and closed out a remarkable come from behind 25-22 triumph and retention of the knockout title.

It was a fitting achievement for the ASCO set-up, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
