Guinness Street Football Challenge

After a few weeks break, the Guinness Street Football Challenge continues this Saturday, May 9 at the Calliaqua Playing field beginning from 6 p.m.

Teams hoping to participate in the tournament, which is being managed by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Association (SVGFA) for the St. Vincent Brewery Limited, must be registered in the name of a bar.{{more}}

Registration fee is EC$40 and teams must comprise of seven players and a manager, four on the field of play at one time and team members must be 18 years or over. Females are also allowed to participate.

A total of eight teams will do battle in the finals (date to be set) while forms can be obtained from the St Vincent Brewery Ltd in Campden Park, the Brewery’s sales trucks and from local bars. Teams can also register on the spot.

Teams that come out on top in the preliminary round will receive EC$500 and five cases of Guinness while the team that wins on the night of the finals will get EC$6,000 and a chance to represent SVG in Jamaica at the regional finals which runs from June 27 to 28 this year.

Teams competing for a place in the finals are expected to gather at other venues including the Rose Bank Hard Court, the Keartons Hard Court and the Campden Park Hard Court at dates to be announced.

The next round of competition will take place at the Bequia Hard Court on Saturday, May 16.

Last year, the local team, Team Crew placed third in the regional finals in Trinidad and as a result they have gained a pass straight into the 2015 finals of the local leg of the competition.

The other teams into the finals so far are Corner Bar Double Trouble who rose to the top during the Georgetown leg of the competition which was held on Saturday, March 28 at the Chili Hard Court and Digicel Emily’s Strikers.

The finals takes place at a date to be announced at the National Tennis Centre in Villa.
