One Vincentian in Windwards Under-15 cricket team

Tijoun Pope, the lone Vincentian to be selected to the Windwards under-15 team for this year’s regional tournament in Guyana, has mixed emotions about his inclusion.{{more}}

Pope, who captained the St Vincent and the Grenadines team in the Windwards Tournament, whilst expressing delight at his personal achievement, was disappointed by his team’s overall returns.

“I feel excited for myself, but at the same time disappointed that the other players did not put in the work needed,” Pope confessed to SEARCHLIGHT.

St Vincent and the Grenadines lost all six matches in the tournament, which was further deflating to Pope.

“I did my best, but the players did not respond to me… They had the right attitude, but they did not display it on the field of play,” Pope conceded.

Apart from Pope, the Windwards’ 14-member team comprises Kimani Melius of St Lucia – captain, along with his countrymen Chaz Cepal, Lee Solomon, Rene Montoute, and Simeon Gerson.

Also included are Dominicans Tahj Tavernier as vice-captain, Ethan Doctrove, Jahseon Alexander and Micah Joseph, with Grenadians Cazari Charles, Lennoy Charles, Razim Elihie and Shakim Edwards.

The reserves are Corrie Simon – Grenada, also Melchizedek Matthew of Grenada and Nigel Jno Lewis – Dominica.

Meanwhile, in the just concluded Windwards Tournament held in St Lucia, several persons were in for awards.

Kimani Melius scored the most runs – 233, with a highest score of 110, with Micah Joseph snaring the most wickets, 17, and he also had the best bowling figures, 6 for 16 versus Grenada. Tavanier had the most dismissals as a wicket keeper – 8.

St Lucia scored the highest total of the tournament – 278 versus St Vincent and the Grenadines, while in reverse the Vincentian lads recorded the lowest total – 53, made against Dominica.
