Troumaca Ontario bags Secondary Schools’ Cricket title

Local Cricket’s top secret was revealed last Tuesday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, with the staging of the United Insurance Secondary Schools’ final.{{more}}

With little known of the competition since its quiet start, the end was not much of a difference as there was little publicity coming from the organisers.

A low scoring, lopsided and uninspiring final was the order of the day.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Troumaca Secondary managed 114 all out. Benniton Stapleton hit a topscore of 31. Thanks to extras – 42, the Troumaca Secondary, was saved from total embarrassment.

Bowling for Thomas Saunders Secondary, Rayshorn John took 3 for 33; Vincent Cupid- 2 for 24 and Dari Haywood and Gregory Wyllie, both captured 2 for 28.

The Thomas Saunders Secondary’s batsmen were at their wits end, and their eventual total of 61 was a bonus.

Like the Troumaca Secondary’s innings, extras were the main contributor, with Troumaca returning the compliment of 31 extras. Vincent Cupid tried to steady the leaking ship, before he was trapped LBW for 18, to be one of Benniton Stapleton’s five scalps.

Stapleton finished with 5 for 28 to be named man of the match. Shammon Hooper captured 4 for 29.

Hooper went on to take the awards for the most runs – 272 and that of the best all rounder in the competition. He also was the only batsman to reach triple figures in this year’s competition, which he registered against the St Vincent Grammar School.

The top wicket-taker of the competition was the George Stephens Secondary’s Javed Williams, who accounted for 24 wickets.

Elmore Robertson of the Troumaca Secondary claimed the award for the best wicket keeper.

Reports are that the 2016 competition could see a change in title sponsor as United Insurance will go through a name change.(RT)
