Team Rivals feast on Triumph United in Premier Division opener

Team Rivals began the defence of their National Lotteries Authority Premier Division Cricket title with an easy innings and 102 runs victory over the promoted Triumph United at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, as the 2015 edition bowled off.{{more}}

From the get go, it was evident that Triumph United was out of weight class.

Triumph United, the second place in last season’s First Division, behind Ishallz Byam Physical Therapy, who opted not to be promoted, started shakily with the bat.

And, despite Team Rivals only fielding eight players within the first overs, Triumph United’s procession back to the PH Veira pavilion was routine.

Only Leanoro Gilkes, with 25, made any score of note in Triumph United’s 102 all out.

Kesrick Williams bagged 5 for 22 and Deighton Butler – 3 for 23.

Team Rivals were served up a three course meal, to which their top order batsmen feasted with palatable contentment, burping to go with it.

The quartet hammered their opponents’ bowling to all parts of the field, amassing 352 for 2 declared. An opening stand of 171 between Hyron Shallow, 104, which included 15 fours and Marvin Small, 69, comprising seven fours, were the appetizers.

Casmond Walters joined at the table, hitting 105 not out, in which he struck 11 fours and four sixes and Harley Skerritt, 65 not out, showed no mercy to Triumph United’s bowlers’ generosity.

Rohan Ash took 2 for 83, bowling for Triumph United.

Batting a second time, Triumph United was able to get up to 148. Lawrence Shoy hit 55.

Deighton Butler was again among the wickets as he took 4 for 36 and Marvin Small 2 for 23.

And at the Stubbs Playing Field, it was more of a contest as Guardian General Saints gained first innings honours over Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO. ASCO made 128. Desron Maloney was the top scorer with 28. Bowling for Saints, Rolando Wright took 5 for 41 and Timothy Warner 3 for 20.

In reply, Saints made 216. Vincent Cupid knocked 56 and Rickford Walker 41.

Ronique Laborde was the pick of ASCO’s bowling, as he grabbed 5 for 20 and Darius Martin 2 for 35.

Batting a second time, ASCO reached 229. Jenry Ollivierre hit 76, Desron Maloney, 73.

Sunil Ambris, who has been dropped from the Windwards Volcanoes in the WICB Professional Cricket League, took to some bowling and helped himself to 4 for 45 and Rolando Wright chipped in with 4 for 80.

Saints reached 17 for 1 when play was called off.

No matches are set for the weekend in this division, because of Saturday being a bank holiday, but they resume full throttle on the weekend of March 21 and 22. (RT)
